Managed Media Services and Marketing On : Education
This is Shorpy Higginbotham, a “greaser” on the tipple at Bessie Mine, Alabama of the Sloss-Sheffield Steel and Iron Co. It was taken in 1910. That is 102 years ago. He said he was 14 years old, but it is doubtful. Carried two heavy pails of grease, and was often in danger of being run over by the coal cars.
Eventually people came to believe that children should not work, but should be educated . The public school system that children attend today is largely unchanged from the school that Shorpy and these children would have attended in the 19th Century.
So it should come as no surprise that
according to The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development places the United States 18th among the 36 nations examined in terms of number of high school students graduating on time.
Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook when he was 20.
Right now there are kids working on “the next big thing.” They find Pokemon “nostalgic”. They remember being 10 -12 years old when Facebook came out. They talk about the differences between mobile device operating systems.
These are our kids. They’re “back to basics.”
They see the world in terms of “Survival of the Fittest.”
They see a 19th Century model of education, and are changing it themselves ~ without your permission.

You need the correct marketing and audience research to draw the right conclusions to take the correct actions, and make the right decisions. As it has always been, media and marketing research are the crown jewels of successful marketing plans. And as always the consumer is in control. Google is in control. Are you in control? Even as the large consulting firms try to explain and predict the future, you can sense that they are followers and not leaders. Leadership is going to come from a different area. A five year forecast is pretty gutsy. One thing we do know, and you’d better get this right. Media companies are about to undergo another huge transformation due to mobile technology. If the internet took media from the “dollars to the dimes”, then mobile is taking them from the “dimes to the pennies.” Oh and one more thing : everyone is now in the business of creating and publishing media. Film studios to refrigerator repairmen. Yes and consulting companies also have to create content to communicate as well.
